Proud to be wierd
Just read an interview with American author Thomas Ligotti which I enjoyed very much. Right there in the introduction, I found this nugget; ' "The Last Messiah" by the Norwegian philosopher Peter Wessel Zapffe. It was written the 1930s and is the only work by Zapffe to be translated into English. In Zapffe's view, human beings in general and human consciousness in particular are a mistake of nature and that the human species should stop reproducing as soon as possible in order to put an end to the tragic horror of our lives as conscious beings who spend all our time deceiving ourselves that life is worth living.' Two things to note here; I agree that the human spirit is an abomination of nature, albeit I might disagree on how to fix it. Also, Zapffe happens to be a relative of my best friend, so of course it must be good stuff. And finally, thanks to the few who actually commented on my whinge of yesterday. I won't stop, but I may take a break. We'll see. Permalink (Fri, 26 November 2004 13:00:00 GMT)| Comments (0) | General |
